To the industry and our clients. Every week without fail, our team of professionals take time out to sit together to discuss and reflect. We discuss current treatments, new techniques, technologies, trends, and possible improvements. We also discuss clients’ suggestions, requirements and needs we are consistently dedicated to meet.
We currently have a combined total of over 50 years of hands-on professional beauty and skincare experience within the Defern Team. Experience and knowledge breeds confidence which we believe to be a must for our clients. Our Defern Academy allows trainees to gain experience alongside full-time college learning.
On client’s individual needs and wellbeing. Taking time to listen and understand every client’s individual needs is paramount. No two people are the same, we are each our own very many layers. Focusing on our clients separately allows us to always design a bespoke treatment or technique tailored to that person only.
Kate joined the Defern Beauty team in November 2021. As a client of Defern’s for over 7 years, Kate fell in love with the business. When the opportunity arose to take over the reins, both she and her husband Jonathan moved heaven and earth to make it happen.
Now, the investment into the business, and its’ future are a full-time joy. Kate has also retrained in the artistry of make-up at The Central School of Make Up in Birmingham. She assists the team in events and application in Defern’s dedicated make up studio.
Melissa heads the team at Defern as Manager. Having worked for Defern for over 10 years, she’s part of the fabric and heart of the business. Responsible for the staff and smooth running of the salon, she is our most senior member with experience spanning every part of beauty therapy.
Melissa completed her studies as an NVQ level 3 therapist over 12 years ago. Passionate about good skin, she works closely with our partners Elemis and Dermalogica, to keep abreast of treatment menus, their ingredients, and benefits. She heads up The Defern Academy and trains the team on brand updates, improved techniques, and products. She loves facials, knows everything you need to know about skincare, and is also a pro at the nail bar.
Melissa loves her clients and enjoys catching up with their latest news. Outside of work, she loves cocktails and spending time with her family.
Katie has been qualified as an NVQ level 3 therapist for 8 years now, having started her career in spas. Her expertise has been enjoyed by the clients of Defern Beauty Rooms for 7 years. Promoted to Senior Therapists in her 5th year, Katie brings warmth and kind smiles to Defern. She loves making her clients feel good about themselves, if you are happy, Katie’s happy. A professional in all areas of beauty therapy, Katie loves nail art and Elemis facials. She is also a trained Elemis Peaceful Pregnancy masseuse, having completed her training at Elemis London academy in 2022. Outside of work, Katie loves cooking and baking, and spending time with her family and friends.
Emma has 15 years’ experience as a certified Sports and Remedial Massage Therapist and 20 years’ experience as a Nail Technician, specialising in manicure and cuticle care. In Emma’s spare time, Terry her beautiful warmblood horse comes first, with Penny and Hugo the dachshund and French bulldog as a very close second.
Aside from animal loving, Emma is also a keen athlete having completed 2 Iron Man competitions across Europe.
Jade joined Defern Beauty Rooms in July 2021, after qualifying as an NVQ Level 2 Beauty Therapist in June of the same year. Jade returned to the UK in 2019, after a long stint travelling and working in Australia with her partner. She has a passion for beauty, and loves getting to know people and being part of their “me time”.
Jade has a passion for brows and has studied extensively on creating and maintaining the best brow for every brow type. When relaxing, Jade likes walking her dog and watching crime documentaries.
Caitlin joined us in September within our Defern Training Academy, she works in the salon every week part time, while studying for her Beauty Therapy NVQ’s at Oxford College. Caitlin is currently enjoying her Dermalogica training, and in the salon she enjoys manicures and waxing, her favourite gel colour is Rose Bud. Outside of work and college, Caitlin loves her dog Olli and spending time with her family.
Ella joined us in October 2023 within the Defern training academy, she works in the salon every Tuesday whilst studying for her NVQ in beauty therapy at Banbury college. Ella is currently enjoying facial treatments and manicure’s. Outside of college and work, Ella enjoys looking after her two cats, her dog and cooking.
